With the increase in worldwide online auctions here at WorldLingo we saw the need for localization within your online auction listings. We’ve created a listings translator specifically for eBay as it is the largest online auction website there is out there today. With our eBay Listing Translator we hope to provide a service that will allow you as the person posting your listings to not only offer your listing in your language of choice but also be able to offer translations of your listing in 15 different languages. We hope that by making your eBay listings readable in 15 different languages you will open your listings up to more bidders who may have previously strayed away from your listing due to being unable to read it.

WorldLingo eBay Listing Translator Preview

Now setting it up is fairly straight forward if you’ve ever posted a listing on eBay then you know all you need to know to get started. Once you’ve created all we need is your listing item number and we’ll give you the code to add to your revised listing description. While offering the ability to translate your listing we understand the need for security and as such all bidding/commenting interaction will be handled through the untranslated eBay listing. This is to ensure no risk is taken by any party involved be it the lister, bidder, eBay or WorldLingo. All of this for the low price of $2 for a lifetime license, in other words for $2 you can add our listing logo to any and all of your eBay listings.

We hope that you take advantage of our new eBay Listing Translator to further broaden your online auction market. We would also love to here any kind of feedback you have about our eBay Listing Translator.

I would imagine that you’ve read about Google’s decision to deprecate their translation API, you’ve also no doubt read that they changed their mind and that the API will be made commercially available, have they actually said how, when, and at what cost? If you’re in the market for a translation API and don’t want to wait to see what which way the wind’s blowing at Google, take a look at WorldLingo’s translation API. http://www.worldlingo.com/en/products/worldlingo_api.html.

The WorldLingo translation API is fully documented, with pricing and usage information detailed on the website so there should be no nasty shocks. If you want more translations than we’ve listed, please ask us, we’ve lots of customers who have unique business needs – some of whom translate billions of words each month.

If you’re a developer and want to use a free version of the API, talk to us, we already make 500 word translations available FOC for e-mails, documents, texts, and websites, so why not something you’re working on.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Today we are proud to announce several updates to our patent translations. We’ve decided to expand our translations of the U.S. Patents to include French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Arabic in addition to the Spanish translations.

In Spanish we now have U.S. Patents from 1975 to 1993 translated into Spanish. We hope that these translations will help those seeking to get patents of their own by preventing them from attempting to patent something that is already patented. Also we hope to help those looking for U.S. Patent translations into Spanish so that they can understand what the patent that was issued says. You can search the patents by characters, numbers, or our miscellaneous links.

We are working on making sure the other languages are updated to the same ranges as the Spanish translations but for now in French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Arabic have patents from 1975 to 1977. They can be accessed by going to our U.S. Patent translations into Spanish and then clicking on the language you wish to view the translated patents.

Machine Translations are important to us, on a good month we’ll provide machine translations to over 18 million people from over 260 countries/territories and the majority will be provided free of charge. For most people the quick, accessible translation is just what they want and need. But here’s a cautionary tale about a Machine Translation, no doubt the person who used the free translation service (not one of ours I might add), wanted something for free, but what they really needed was accurate and reliable, and for that they should have been prepared to pay – see if you agree?

It is very important to know how accurate you need your translation to be because sometimes that fast and often free online translation could do more harm than good. In 2010 there was a Russian trucker involved in a bar fight in Dordrecht, Netherlands that was sent free. On the day of the trial, the Russian interpreter showed up in court, but not the trucker. The interpreter was asked to translate what was written in the summons. Instead of (translated from Dutch) “you are to appear in court on 3rd August 2010”, it went more like “you have to avoid being in court on 3 August 2010”. In Dutch, “vóórkomen’, with the stress on the first syllable, means ‘to appear’, while ‘voorkómen’ means ‘to prevent’. Due to the translation error the trucker was set free.

Not all machine translations are the same of course, some allow special characters such as stresses and accents to be included, while others don’t. I’m not sure what the equivalent of caveat emptor is when there isn’t a buyer, but whatever it is it would seem to be appropriate – if your Latin is better than mine perhaps you could tell me.

These are all the patents from the time periods mentioned so you will be able to find translated pages of any patents that were issued during those years.

As we get more of these translated we will be keeping you updated through posts like this. We hope that you find these translations helpful in any of your patent needs. You can view the patents we have translated so far by going to our Multilingual Archive’s Patent Page. If you have any comments about our translations of these patents please feel free to post them here.

In an effort to improve our machine translations over time we have added some features that you can take advantage of to help increase the accuracy of your translation. Our machine translators give you the option to choose not only what languages to translate to and from, they also give you the ability to ensure it uses the right special characters for your text. Our translator also has the functionality to upload or create your own custom dictionary in case you want certain words or phrases to be translated into something different from what is in our dictionary. These are some of the features we have implemented in our machine translations to help provide you a better and more accurate translation.

You can see some of these features on our free translators. For example on our Free Text Translator page you can find the ability to customize the letter formatting for vowels. As time goes on we hope to implement more features to further improve upon our amazing machine translators to continue to provide great services.

What are your thoughts on machine translators? How would you improve upon them?
